FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you ship orders?

We carefully package all yarn orders in silk paper, a wax envelope, then a sturdy brown craft envelope (or box, depending on the size of your order!) All this packaging is recyclable, which is important to us. We are trying to use the least plastic possible. Each skein is protected as best we can manage, to prevent damage during transport.

What are the shipping costs?

Shipping costs are calculated based on your location and the weight of your order. You should see the shipping methods available for your region at checkout before completing your purchase.

We know that some of the international shipping options are quite high, and we regret that, but we are a small business and do not ship in high enough volumes to get the most favourable rates. We are trying to find options to lower the costs but there is only so much we can do. Please accept our apologies, and know we're working on it!

How long does shipping take?

Delivery times vary depending on your location. Domestic orders typically arrive within 3-7 business days, while international orders may take 1-3 weeks.

Do you offer international shipping?

Yes! International shipping rates and delivery times will be calculated at checkout based on your destination.

Help! There are no shipping options showing for my package!!

Sometimes communication can can get a little weird between the shipping app integrations and our shopify boutique. We're still at the start, and things can be a little rocky. If shipping isn't showing up for you, first try using another browser.

Otherwise, please write us an email at Orders@thehareandthecrow.com. We'll see if we can't solve the issue with a manual order for you, and thank you so much for your patience.

What about shipping to the United States. (And what's going on with the United States tariffs?)

At the moment, La Poste (our national postal service in France) has temporarily suspended all retail shipping to the United States. As a result, we’re currently sending US orders by courier. Our best option right now is FedEx.

Unfortunately, this means shipping costs to the US are higher than we’d like, but we’re still happy to offer it, should you be so kind as to order from us!

Shipments sent to the US via FedEx are processed through their customs offices, which require payment of tariffs and any applicable fees before delivery.

As for those tariffs: both customs duties and tariffs are the responsibility of the buyer (that’s you), and must be paid directly to the carrier before your package is released. Please understand this isn’t our choice, tariffs are applied to imports, and the buyer is considered the importer.

The tariff amount is typically between 10–20% of your order value, but we’re unable to predict or calculate these fees in advance. We wish there were an easier solution and completely sympathise with your frustration.

Can I track my yarn order?

Absolutely! Once your order ships, you should receive a tracking number via email so you can monitor your package's journey.

What if my yarn arrives damaged?

We take great care in packaging, but if your yarn arrives damaged, please contact us immediately with photos. We'll work with you to resolve the issue quickly.

Do you offer free shipping?

Not at the moment! We hope to be able to, some day :)

When will my package ship!?

It's Annie all on her lonesome who manages all the shipping, and also handles delivery of the in-shop pick up orders (which means she literally gets in her car and drives the orders to Les Tricoteurs Volants, in the 10th, in Paris :) so we don't ship every day.

We try to ship twice a week, and prepare/drop off the packages to be picked up from Les Tricoteurs Volants once a week. We'll send you a notice as soon as your package has left our hands, or is ready for pick up!

What's this Pick Up option all about!?

Enrico at Les Tricoteurs Volants has very kindly offered to be a pick-up point for anyone who’d like to collect their package from his yarn shop!

As mentioned above, this means Annie will prepare your order and then hand-deliver it to Enrico’s shop, so it’s not an every-other-day kind of option (This is also why this option isn't free) We usually manage a shop drop-off about once a week, and we’ll always message you when your package is ready for collection.

Can I combine orders?

For shipping and logistical reasons, we’re not able to combine orders at the moment — sorry about that!

Can I add to my order?

We can try! Please don’t place a separate order (see above) — just send us an email at orders@thehareandthecrow.com, and we’ll do our best to help.
