Furisode is our laceweight cloud, a powdery, dense halo blend of fluffy suri alpaca and mulberry silk, whisper-light and soft beyond belief.

Named after furisode, the fluttery long-sleeved kimono worn by young women to mark celebration and coming of age, this yarn is the perfect carry along for nearly any of our bases, or knit it alone for something sheer and practically weightless.

The suri alpaca takes dye in a muted, soft register while the silk core dyes more vividly,  the two fibres interacting to create beautiful colour variation across the skein. The suri makes it incredibly warm while the silk brings a subtle luminosity.

Available in both 50g and 25g skeins, making it easy to ‘paint’ your work with a stunning range of textural and colour effects.

3.5 – 4.5 mm(U.S. sizes 4-7)

While Furisode is technically a lace weight, it is best worked at sport gauge and above to allow space for the halo to open: 20–26 sts =10cm

As a carry-along, gauge varies depending on the paired base

Furisode Silk-Lace should be cared for delicately, so the halo doesn’t become matted. When worked alone, it is best suited for garments that have plenty of ease so they won't see much friction. Instead of frequent washing, air-out your garments made with Furisode between wash days. Consider spot washing between full baths and re-blocking.

  • We recommend all our hand-dyed yarns be hand washed in an abundant tepid (not hot!) bath, with a maximum soak time of 30 minutes.
  • Use your favourite gentle no-rinse wool wash with a generous splash of white vinegar or a heaping spoonful of citric acid°. (°see below)
  • After soaking, lift your item out of the bath and gently roll-dry it in a towel, do not wring!
  • Alternatively, tie your damp item TIGHTLY in a pillowcase or wash bag, and spin out in your washing machine’s spin cycle. Be sure your machine cycle does not rinse during this cycle!
  • Lay your item flat to dry, pin if desired.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight
  • Do not store dirty

°Contrary to popular lore, this isn't to 'set' loose dye! Rather, this conditions the fibre cuticle of protein fibres. A bath with a low pH will make your finished object feel softer to the touch, and improve shine!
