Kappōgi is our sturdy sock base, a workhorse merino and nylon blend for comfort, strength, and long lasting wear.

Whether you are making socks that need to hold up in boots or accessories that get thrown into bags and pulled off and on a hundred times, this yarn is made to handle it.

Smooth, strong, and hardy, with the nylon adding elasticity and helping the fabric hold its shape. Good stitch definition, easy to work with, and excellent value. What it gives up in softness it gains in wear. The fabric has a solid, dry hand, and is the choice for anything that will see hard use: gloves, hats, socks.

Named after kappōgi, a serviceable smock worn over clothing in kitchens and workshops, this base is all about function and reliability while staying beautiful.

Kappōgi Sock is our most durable sock yarn, and of all our bases, is the most suited to machine washing. Doing so will fade the hand dyed colour. To avoid this as long as possible, we recommend that if you choose to machine wash your items made from Kappogi, do so on the delicate cycle in a cool wash and in a wash bag. Add citric acid or white vinegar in the rinse tray, and avoid all fabric softeners. Always air dry, do not put into the dryer.

To best preserve the colour and to extend the life of your garment, we recommend:

• That your item be hand washed in an abundant tepid (not hot!) bath, with a maximum soak time of 30 minutes.
• Use your favourite gentle no-rinse wool wash with a generous splash of white vinegar or a heaping spoonful of citric acid°. (°see below)
• After soaking, lift your item out of the bath and gently roll-dry it in a towel, do not wring!
• Alternatively, tie your damp item TIGHTLY in a pillowcase or wash bag, and spin out in your washing machine’s spin cycle. Be sure your machine cycle does not rinse during this cycle!
• Lay your item flat to dry, pin if desired.
• Keep out of direct sunlight
• Do not store dirty

°Contrary to popular lore, this isn't to 'set' loose dye! Rather, this conditions the fibre cuticle of protein fibres. A bath with a low pH will make your finished object feel softer to the touch, and improve shine!
