Hakama DK is a chubby, woollen-spun, non superwash 3 ply. Being both non-superwash and woollen spun mean that technically while this base sits at the heavier end of sport, practically it works easily for DK to worsted applications, making the meterage a very attractive value!
The structure of this yarn gives beautiful stitch definition while the woollen spin allows the fabric to full and fill out. Excellent for textured stitch patterns and large -gauge colourwork alike! The multiple plies also make the yarn more sturdy and resistant.
Named after the hakama, pleated trousers worn over the short hakamashita kimono. Hakama are a garment of utility, strength, and beauty. All elements we find in this wool, both practical and refined.
Lofty and warm, it makes for a wonderfully light but still cozy jumper. The regularity of the plies gives the finished fabric a uniform, velvety surface, denser and more even than one generally expects from a woollen. It is another unexpectedly soft entry in our non superwash line-up, and the result is a fabric that gets better the more you wear it, with none of the prickle you might expect from a 'rustic' wool.
