Kakebuton Sock is our plush, silky, and fluid, sock-weight singles base. Composed of extra fine superwash merino, it really must be felt to be believed.

Named after kakebuton, the puffy duvets found on your futon, It’s perfect for shawls, airy sweaters, and open stitch work. The singles construction gives it a smooth, uninterrupted surface that takes colour with exceptional clarity. Superwash merino dyes vividly, and the smooth strand channels light all the way down its length, making our colourways read with painterly luminosity.

Excellent for shawls, open fabric, and garments where flow matters more than hard wear.

2.25 – 3.5 mm (U.S. size 1-4)

If working in a garment a sock gauge on the tighter side is preferable, between 32-28 sts = 10cm

For more open knits, this can be worked acceptably as a sport at approx 26-24 sts = 10cm

Kakebuton Sock is less durable than a plied sock yarn, and a halo will develop over time with wear. Best suited for garments that won't see much friction, and that won't need deep regular washing.

Instead of frequent washing, air-out your garments to stretch out time between wash days. Consider spot washing between full baths and re-blocking.

• We recommend all our hand-dyed yarns be hand washed in an abundant tepid (not hot!) bath, with a maximum soak time of 30 minutes.
• Use your favourite gentle no-rinse wool wash with a generous splash of white vinegar or a heaping spoonful of citric acid°. (°see below)
• After soaking, lift your item out of the bath and gently roll-dry it in a towel, do not wring!
• Alternatively, tie your damp item TIGHTLY in a pillowcase or wash bag, and spin out in your washing machine’s spin cycle. Be sure your machine cycle does not rinse during this cycle!
• Lay your item flat to dry, pin if desired.
• Keep out of direct sunlight
• Do not store dirty

°Contrary to popular lore, this isn't to 'set' loose dye! Rather, this conditions the fibre cuticle of protein fibres. A bath with a low pH will make your finished object feel softer to the touch, and improve shine!
