Hanten Chainette DK  is a chainette construction yarn made from ultra-soft, extra fine, superwash merino with a nylon binder. Its unique structure forms a miniature tube that expands to fill the stitches in your work, creating a fabric that is airy and deceptively light, for how warm it wears.

Because of the chainette construction, you get 400 metres of wool that behaves like a DK weight yarn in a 100 gram skein! It takes colour brilliantly, has a soft and pillowy hand, and plays beautifully with either of our fluffy lace weights, Furisode Suri-Silk, or Kosode Mohair-Silk. 

Use it alone for sweaters and accessories with loft and marshmallowy puff, or carry it together with something for an even more astonishing gauge (aran!) and nearly infinite colour and textural possibilities. Just a few stitches with this yarn and it’s versatility becomes wonderfully evident.

As sport: 3-3.75 mm (U.S. size 2-5)

As DK : 4-5 mm (U.S. size 6-8)

As Sport for a for a dense and quite spongy finished fabric: 24–28 sts =10cm

As DK 22–24 sts =10cm

Hanten is a superwash but it should be cared for as a delicate fabric for washing, and made into garments with sufficient ease that they do not see heavy wear at common friction points. 

Contrary to our usual advice, we recommend putting it in the dryer in certain cases! If you feel your garment is becoming baggy or falling out of shape, after washing and blocking as recommended, place your lightly damp (NOT WET) item in a low dryer for a couple of minutes. Perform frequent checks to see how much shrinkage you’ve achieved (and to avoid ruining your work!) Be careful, and YMMV!

Instead of frequent washing, air-out your garments to stretch out time between wash days. Consider spot washing between full baths and re-blocking.

• We recommend all our hand-dyed yarns be hand washed in an abundant tepid (not hot!) bath, with a maximum soak time of 30 minutes.
• Use your favourite gentle no-rinse wool wash with a generous splash of white vinegar or a heaping spoonful of citric acid°. (°see below)
• After soaking, lift your item out of the bath and gently roll-dry it in a towel, do not wring! 
• Alternatively, tie your damp item TIGHTLY in a pillowcase or wash bag, and spin out in your washing machine’s spin cycle. Be sure your machine cycle does not rinse during this cycle!
• Lay your item flat to dry, pin if desired.
• Keep out of direct sunlight
• Do not store dirty

°Contrary to popular lore, this isn't to 'set' loose dye! Rather, this conditions the fibre cuticle of protein fibres. A bath with a low pH will make your finished object feel softer to the touch, and improve shine!
